THE 2007 NATIONAL MULTI-SECTORAL ANNUAL AIDS PROGRAMME WORKPLAN DEVELOPMENT RETREAT AT CHRYSMAR HOTEL IN LONGACRES
Following the 2006 Zambian Joint AIDS Programme Review (JAPR) Report which was finalized at the beginning of June, one of the glaring recommendations was the need for Zambia to have a Costed Multi-sectoral Annual AIDS Programme Work plan with annual targets. As part of efforts to implement this important recommendation, the National AIDS Council in collaboration with all Sectors, Civil Society Organizations, Private sector Organizations, Development and Cooperating partners are working together to develop a National Multi-sectoral Annual AIDS Work Plan that will encompasses all interventions being implemented to address the AIDS epidemic in Zambia.
So far, a draft multi-sectoral work plan has been developed based on bilateral work with partners especially the MOH and the six thematic group. NAC in collaboration with the Joint UN team is therefore organizing a 4-day Work-Planning Retreat to validate and finalize the existing draft work plan. The Retreat is scheduled from the 13,14,16,17 August at Chrysmar Hotel in Longacres, Lusaka.
The specific objectives of the retreat are:
- to validate the draft National Multi-sectoral Work-plans which include all work-plans of MOH, NAC, CSO, private sector and donor supported projects and programmes linked to the six thematic areas of the NSF implemented
- to build consensus on key national annual targets for the AIDS Response in 2007 and to generate clear and realistic cost per programme areas for the year
- to plan the development of the 2008 National Multi-sectoral AIDS Programme Work Plan
Participants expected include partners from the public sector, private and civil society organization. Partners from the private sector and civil society organizations who are not members of any of the six thematic groups listed below are advised to make input into the work plan and attend relevant days of the retreat appropriate with interventions being implemented.
The proposed retreat methodology will involve plenary presentation of the JAPR Report and the draft Work plan, Group work by members of the theme group, plenary presentation on the group work recommendations; update of the work plan by the theme group lead and planning for the 2008 national multi-sectoral work-plan for the country. This is expected to be done on daily basis as the different themes engage on the draft work plan of the national response. The draft programme of events is the multi-sectoral work plan attached and for your information. We encourage all partners to study the draft work plan and fill in existing gaps before the meeting.
